CLASS DESCRIPTION
Explore the multi-block method of printmaking to create multi-colour prints on paper. Discover the connection between the traditional Japanese process of mokuhanga woodcut and the modern Western technique of multi-block linocut printmaking, and experiment with a variety of carving techniques, application of oil-based inks, and printing on paper using a book press. Learn to plan for overlapping design elements to create new colours using process pigments and transparent extender. Over the two days you’ll carve two linocut blocks and use simple registration techniques to produce a small edition of colourful prints.
YOUR INSTRUCTORS
Jacquie Sullivan. Jacquie’s art practice largely focuses on relief printmaking, working out of her home studio in Whitby, Ontario to create hand-printed linocut, woodcut and letterpress prints. She makes works on paper, greeting cards and block-printed textiles inspired by moments in nature, travel memories and the power of words. Through both her work and the printmaking workshops she teaches, she aims to help others to slow down and appreciate the world around them more fully.
