DESCRIPTION
Dip your toes into the wonderful world of wet felting! With a clump of wool fibres, water, soap and friction, develop the skills to make a funky felt pouch!
In this workshop, we will be doing a type of wet felting called nuno felting. We combine wool fibres with a loose weave fabric, such as silk. When we agitate wet soapy fibres by rolling and rubbing them, they migrate through the weave of the silk and bond. During this process, the wool shrinks a great deal, whereas the silk shrinks very little. This creates beautiful and surprising wrinkles and textures in the silk. Magical!
Demonstrations of the wet felting techniques will take place throughout the workshop. This project is suitable for those new to wet felting, but would also provide good fun for experienced felters.
Elizabeth is a certified yoga instructor. For those interested, she will guide students in a seated stretch break. She will teach some helpful stretches to do when immersed in art and craft!
Join us for an artistic, active, woolly event!
*Please note that wet felting requires hand, arm and upper body strength and stamina due to prolonged periods of rubbing and rolling of the wet wool fibres. You will be plenty tired by the end of the workshop, but doubtless exhilarated, too!
Finished pouch size: approximately 10cm x 19cm, although individual pouches will vary

YOUR TUTOR
Elizabeth MacLaughlin
Elizabeth formally studied painting, but would go home at night and spend hours drawing caricatures of people and strange, little animals. Much later, she made friends with her sewing machine and became a quilter... and this is where the fun began. Later still, Elizabeth moved into working with felt. Playing with fabric, felt and wool... she loves it all!
Qualified as an elementary teacher, art teacher, and yoga instructor, Elizabeth finds joy in interactions with students of all ages.
